597,177. Razors. MACK, E. L. June 1, 1945, No. 13833. Convention date, May 16, 1944. [Class 30] [Also in Groups XXIII and XXXVI] A razor blade made partly or wholly of aluminium or of an alloy of high aluminium content, has its cutting edge or edges of oxidised aluminium. An aluminium blade may be oxidised over its whole surface or only at its bevelled edges. In producing a blade with a double bevelled edge, a blank may be entirely coated with a varnish resist, the edge ground on both sides to produce the double bevel and to remove the resist therefrom, the exposed faces oxidised in an electrolytic bath (see Group XXXVI) and the edge finally sharpened. Alternatively, the oxidisation may be performed after only one of the bevels has been formed, the other bevel being afterwards formed so that only one face of the blade is oxidised. Or the double bevel may be first produced, the whole surface then covered by the resist, the resist on one bevel being then removed and the surface oxidised. Further, a single bevel may be first formed, the blank coated with resist, the second bevel then formed and its surface oxidised. The blade may be of steel with an edge portion of aluminium secured thereto. In the case of a blade having a single bevel 8, Fig. 3, at each edge, the blade may be provided with holes 11 to engage projections on the razor which are so positioned that the blade cannot be inserted in the razor in an upside down position.
