Abstract

364,927. Safety-razor blades. HAMMOND, H. S., Oakleigh, Lynmouth, North Devon. March 6, 1931, No. 7005. [Class 30.] A safety-razor blade is made of glass, flint, or similar vitreous substance. The flat wafer blade shown in Fig. 1 is cut from strips of glass of 0À05 in. thickness, the strips having a single bevel cutting edge 2 formed without additional treatment by holding the diamond or other tool which cuts the strips at an angle. The cutting edge may be ground on the opposite side to produce a double bevel, and the blade is provided with locating end notches 5. A hollow ground blade, also shown, is either ground from a sheet of glass to the required form, or is so formed by rolling whilst the glass is soft.
