[Also in - Group XXII] In a method of making sharp-edged tools such as files, rasps, milling cutters, drills, reamers, &c. the formed tools are sand-blasted on the cutting surfaces and coated with a layer of hard metal such as chromium. A file having a tooth form made in the normal manner and which has been hardened and quenched in oil is sandblasted directly against the cutting edges and coated with chromium. Glass or quartz sand of 120 mesh may be used and has the effect of sharpening the cutting edges when directed thereagainst. Cutting tools of unhardened or non-hardenable metals may be made by the method.
