Abstract

488,543. Serrating by rotary smooth discs. LEES, A. T. Feb. 26, 1938, No. 6100. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XIV] Table and like knives are formed with a fluting 11 extending to the edge which is formed with teeth of the form shown in Fig. 3. The teeth are bevelled at 14 and are ground sharp at 17. The other side 12 of the blade is preferably slightly convex. The notching may be produced by means of a highspeed steel wheel having a pointed helical rib. The action is partly by abrasion and partly by swaging or burnishing and produces a burr which may be afterwards removed.
