Abstract
595,914. Two-part couplings. LIVERPOOL ELECTRIC CABLE CO., Ltd., MILNER, R. F. D., and FROST, J. T. July 7, 1945, No. 17394. [Class 38 (i)] A flameproof cable adaptor consists of a one-piece open ended housing 2 which is located within a chamber 1 containing electrical apparatus, the projecting flange 2a being bolted to the chamber wall. Within the adaptor two insulating blocks 6 have channels 7 in which are fixed double-ended, split, and non-rotatable sockets 8, 8a, surrounded by spring collars 10, and gripping metal plugs 11, to which are fixed by set screws the tails of electric cables entering through the block extensions 6a. Sleeves 13 are moulded on the pins, and the interior of the adaptor may be filled with insulating compound through the cap 18. A co-operating box (not shown), substantially similar to the adaptor, may be fixed to the flange by set screws, and contains insulated contact sockets fitting contact plugs, similar to 11, connected to further plugs fitting sockets 8a, and supplying power to the apparatus. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown), a single insulating block is used, having channels as before, in which contact sockets are located by flanges bearing on shoulders in the channels, and are retained by spring clips. Cable tails from the apparatus are secured directly by set screws to the projecting tubular portions of the contact sockets.
