Abstract

595,653. Wave-guides. BOLTON, A. June 16, 1945, No. 15381. [Class 40 (v)] A wave-guide horn, for feeding a reflecting mirror, is provided with a flange around its periphery, the mirror-facing surface of the flange being located in a plane which is oneeighth wavelength behind the plane of the orifice of the horn, the dimensions of the flange being chosen to reduce undesired back and side radiation. As shown for a rectangular guide 14, the flange is in the form of a cruciform plate 13 having flanges 15,. 16 along the shorter sides of the guide of width w equal to a quarter wavelength and flanges 17, 18 along the longer sides of the guide of width w<1> equal to threequarters of a wavelength. The flanges 17, 18 are bent backwards so that a quarter wavelength strip lies parallel to the axis of the guide. A rectangular lip 23 is formed on the outer face of plate 13 to form an orifice for the guide oneeighth wavelength in front of plate 13. The unit 13, 23 is screwed to a flange 20 on the guide with the interposition of a mica sheet 22 for sealing the guide.
