Abstract
595,078. Linear - dimension gauges. HAYCOCK, H. J., and WILSON, H. G. C. Jan. 27, 1945, No. 2179. [Class 106 (ii)] The anvil of a linear dimension gauge is provided with means for setting up in the anvil an axial tension the degree of which can be varied for fine adjustment during setting. As shown, a. gauge of the caliper type has the casing of a dial gauge 6 slidably mounted in a jaw 5b which can be tightened by a clamping bolt 8. The other jaw carries the anvil A in a similar manner. The anvil comprises a casing .9 enclosing a solid member 11 on which is screwed a lock nut 10, One end of member 11 is enlarged and abuts against one face of a knurled ring 12, the other face of which is camshaped and engages with a corresponding cam surface 9a on the casing. The member 11 is held against rotation by a pin 13 engaging a hole 9c in the casing. On rotation of the knurled ring 12, the axial tension in the member 11 is varied to vary the length by a very small amount.
