Abstract

554,054. Gauges. MANVERS, A. March 24, 1942, No. 3888. [Class 106 (ii)] In a plug gauge having a tapered plug adapted to slide axially between a pair of blocks, the blocks are linked together by a stud or other connection which passes through an elongated slot in the plug, spring means being provided to constrain the blocks to close on the plug. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a plug 1 is adapted to slide between a pair of diametrically opposite blocks 2. The plug is formed with an elongated slot 3 through which passes a stud 4 provided with nuts 7 and compression springs 6 arranged in recesses 5 in the blocks. The inner surfaces of the block are V-shaped to straddle the plug. In a modified form, Fig. 3, the blocks are adjusted by mechanical means. For this purpose the plug 1 is formed with a bore 11 to receive a screwed spindle 13 having an eye 14 through which the stud 4 passes. An actuating nut 17 on the spindle is held in a flange 15 on the plug by means of pins 20 engaging a circumferential groove in the nut. The projecting end of the spindle 13 is provided with a lock nut 21 forming a cover. An additional pair of blocks arranged at right angles to the blocks shown may be provided, each block of the extra pair being carried by its own stud which is threaded into the eye 14 of the spindle.
