Abstract

555,830. Gauging screw threads. ATKINSON, J. Dec. 6, 1941, No. 15747. [Class 106 (ii)] A device for enabling ordinary micrometer callipers to measure effective diameter comprises two parallels 1, 2, each formed of an oblong block of metal or other material, one of which is provided with two truncated thread form ridges 1a and the other with a single ridge 2a whereby the members are placed over the threads to be checked with the ridges engaging them as shown, the device being located between the anvils of the micrometer. The ends of the members 1, 2 may be provided with slots 1b, 2b in which rubber bands or threads 3 may be engaged to hold the members in position, the slots being narrower than the bands. In a modification the parallels are held by spring clips to the anvils and their distance apart adjusted by screws.
