Abstract
594,903. Knitting-machines. BENTLEY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., DEANS, F. E., and WAINWRIGHT, C. H. April 18, 1945, No. 9652. [Class 74 (ii)], A machine of the opposed needle cylinder type has needle trick walls, in at least one of the beds, constituted by individually slidable blades 9 located in grooves in the cylinder and capable of projection and retraction at the margin of the bed. As shown, the blades project normally below themargin of the top cylinder 2 and are retracted at the wrapping station WS by a cam 18, Fig. 2 (not shown), in the cam box 3, to provide room for movement of a wrap finger 6a. When wrap-thread striping is not required, the cam 18 is withdrawn and the blades are held in their normal position by a strip-like cam except at the rib stitch drawing point where they are lowered slightly by a vertically adjustable cam 22, Fig. 2, to assist in the formation of the loops. The edges of the blades above the sliders are cut back and provided with two spaced. butts or equivalent shoulders to engage opposite sides of the strip-like cam, or a succession of such cams.
