Abstract

A flat bed machine has needle selection achieved by means of jacks (15) Figs. 1, 2 and 3 not shown which are selectively advanced to bring butts (16, 17) under the influence of a cam (34), Fig. 4 not shown, movable with the carriage to depress the jacks and raise the butt ends of the needles into the path of the knitting cams. The jacks are provided with projections (23) about which they pivot and which engage in one of two notches (21, 22) in the needle bed in their advanced or retracted positions. The front end of the bed is provided with pivoted knocking over sinkers (25) which are controlled by a cam on the carriage. The cam (34) can be selectively positioned to various heights whereby the extent of the projection of the needle butts from the needle tricks can be controlled.
