Abstract
902,474. Knitting-machines. ETABLISSEMENTS SUPERBA S.A.R.L. April 15, 1959 [April 16, 1958], No. 12794/59. Class 74 (2). The cams for operating the needles in each bed of a hand-operated parallel bed machine comprise forward and reverse stitch cams 12, which also serve as clearing cams, fixed upthrow cams 14 and a fixed central needle lowering cam 13. The cams 12 are secured to members 6, each having a pin 7 to enable each member 6 and its cam 12 to pivot about the pin 7 which is accommodated in a slot 8 formed in the cam-plate 5. The lower ends of the members 6 are connected by a spring 9 to urge them towards each other such that the upper ends of the cams 12 are urged into contact with a flange 10 on the plate 5. The positions of the pins 7 in the slots 8 are adjustable by means of a cam 30 pressing against one of the members 6 and which cam 30 is rotatable by a knob which simultaneously adjusts the position of a pin 32 pressing against the other member 6, as shown in Fig. 3. This adjustment of the members 6 serves to vary the length of draw of the needles. During the forward and reverse movement of the cam slide the needles engage the upper surface of the leading cam 12 and depending on whether the cam is prevented from pivoting about its pivot 7, or is limited in its movement, or is permitted free movement, various pattern effects can be achieved. For this purpose various pins 25, 26, 27 are capable of being projected through the plate 5 into the pivoted path of the cams 12 so that the movement of the cams 12 when engaged by the needle butts can be restricted to cause the needles to clear prior to knitting, Fig. 5, to be raised sufficiently for tucking, Fig. 7, or to pass below the yarn feeding height and remain inoperative, Fig. 6a. Thereby plain or tubular knitting can be achieved, or rib knitted fabric with or without tucking on one or both beds can be produced. The pins 25, 26, 27 can be projected through the plate 5 by means of push-buttons on the cam slide connected to plates carrying the pins or by means of a rotatable knob having a cam surface engaging and pressing the pins down as it is rotated.
