Abstract

594,747. Belt gearing. DRANSFIELD, J. W. July 2, 1945, No. 16714. [Class 80(i)] A device for shifting a belt on and off a pulley 5 comprises a fixed mounting 3 straddling the pulley shaft 4 and having rollers 7 on which is mounted a ring 8. Four arms 14 projecting from the latter carry rollers 15, and two spokes 11 on the ring 8 have end faces 12 inclined towards the pulley 5. Pivoted at the end of an arm 16 on the mounting 3 is an arm 17 positioned between the runs of the belt. The ring 8 is normally held fixed by spring urged bars 18. The belt is shifted off the pulley 5 on to the supporting rollers 15 by the arm 17 when the latter is turned about its pivot to engage one side of the belt. To replace the belt, the locking bars 18 are released by actuating a bell-crank lever 19, and the ring 8 is turned by a rope or chain passing round it so that the inclined faces 12 of the spokes 11 engage the belt and lift it on to the pulley 15. The ring 8 is then returned to its normal position and locked.
