Abstract

601,719. Rope railways. KING, Ltd., G. W., and KING, D. M. June 4, 1946, No. 16969. [Class 104 (ii)] In a rope-railway system with vehicles 10, Fig. 1, propelled by endless continuouslymoving belts 16, each vehicle carries one or more rollers 14 pressed into frictional engagement with the belt and normally prevented from rotating, the rollers being, however, free to rotate when the vehicle meets an obstruction such as a station stop or the immediately preceding vehicle. Each vehicle carries a pivoted arm 13 provided with a spring 15 and a pair of rollers 14. The spring-loading may be adjustable. The rollers are frictionally held against rotation by friction discs 19, 20, Fig. 4, the former being rigid with the shaft 18 and the latter sliding on the shaft under pressure from springs 22 and adjustable nuts 23.
