593,775. Windscreen wipers. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. June 12, 1945, No. 14898. Convention date, July 28, 1944. [Class 138 (i)] In a windscreen wiper for a flat or curved surface comprising an elastic body having a wiping - face, and supported substantially throughout its length by a flat backing spring acting to flex the body into contact with the surface to be wiped, the body is connected to an actuating arm by means directly connected to the spring. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a flat spring 2 with reinforcing leaves 4 is incorporated in a moulded rubber body 1 having a wiping-face which comprises a flexible rib 5 and two non-flexible beads 6, the rib serving to smooth out the moisture remaining after the bulk of the water has been removed by a preceding bead. The beads may be chemically treated so as to have a lower coefficient of friction than the rib. A fin 3 secured to the spring 2 and extending through the leaves 4 is connected to an operating arm, the body 1 having a collar 9 which extends up and about the fin 3 and is gripped by the arm. In a modification, Fig. 4, the body 1 is supported by a separate backing-spring 18 connected at its ends to the ends of a plate 19 embedded in the body of the spring. The spring 18 may be enclosed in a protective rubber covering.
