Abstract

591,364. Sawing - machines. MORSTATT, R. A., and HAUT, F. J. G. March 20, 1945, No. 6982. [Class 145 (ii)] In a machine for sawing off bar or tube material 7 in which a circular saw 1, an electric motor 2 with reduction gear and a clamping device 4 are arranged in a portable unit adapted to operate on the material in situ, the clamping device 4 is adapted to be stationarily fixed on the material and the saw 1 and its driving means are adapted to be moved across the material to cut it. As shown, the clamping device comprises a chain 6 attached to a slide 4<1> and passing over a sprocket 8, which may be rotated by a handle 10 through an irreversible wormgear 9. The slide 4<1> is movable along a frame 5 supporting the motor 2 and saw 1 by means of a star wheel 12 and a threaded spindle 11 to feed the saw through the work. The machine may be suspended from a trolley running on a rail at right angles to the axes of the bar material.
