Work-feeding means for a sawing machine, such as a circular saw or band saw, comprises a power-driven toothed feed device 14 having its teeth arranged to move around a closed path and to engage and bite into the work along the line on which a saw cut is to be made. As applied to a circular saw 12, the device 14 consists of a toothed wheel which is secured to a shaft 17 and extends through a slot in the table 11 of the machine. The wheel is not thicker and preferably less in thickness than the saw and arranged in the plane of the saw so that marks made by the wheel on the material to be sawn are removed by the saw. The shaft 17 carries three gears 48, 49, 50, Fig. 2 (not shown), engaging complementary gears 45, 46, 47, any one of which can be selectively secured against rotation on a shaft 42 by a key 55 slidable axially of the shaft 42 by a rack-andpinion mechanism 55, 60. The shaft 42 is driven by a worm-and-wheel mechanism 40, 41 from a motor 19 to rotate the wheel 14 at a speed determined by engagement of the respective gears. The motor 19 is secured to a casing 18 for gears and shafts, the casing being urged by a spring 28 about a pivot 25; the casing is movable between limits determined by stops 33, 34. The work is pressed into engagement with the toothed wheel 14 by rollers 20 mounted on a lever 21 which is urged into a horizontal position about a pivot 65 on a rod 62 by a spring 68. The rod is vertically-adjustable in a housing 69 mounted on a clamp 71 which, in turn, is vertically adjustable on a pillar 72 by a screw 74. A spring 77 resiliently urges the rod 67 downwardly. A fence 13 is laterally adjustable along a rod 86 which also serves as a pivot for a bracket 89 having work-supporting rollers at its extremity. In other embodiments, the machine may have a plurality of saws and aligned feed wheels and the toothed device may be in the form of an endless band.
