[Class 60] A gramophone needle sharpener for mounting on the gramophone cabinet includes a needlecarrying chuck, a driving wheel movable into frictional engagement with the record carrying surface of the turntable, an abrasive surface for engagement by said needle, said chuck and abrasive surface being both pivotally mounted and operatively connected so that the assisted or unassisted weight of the. chuck and its associated driving wheel maintains contact of the needle with the abrasive surface and said abrasive surface partakes of any upward and downward movement of the chuck and driving wheel consequent upon any unevenness of the record-carrying surface to maintain the cutting angle between the needle and abrasive surface uniform. A base 1 secured near a gramophone turntable 2 has supporting arms I 3 pivoted between which is a spring held frame 7 carrying adjustably a spindle screw-threaded at 12, a body part 11, rotatably mounted in which is a spindle 14 having secured at one end a driving wheel 15 engaging the surface of the gramophone turntable 2 and at its other end carrying a chuck 17 for a needle 18. An abrasive surface 4 is mounted on a plate 5 fixedly secured to the pivoting frame 7 to ensure a constant angle of contact between the surface 4 and the needle 18. When not in use the frame 7 is turned about its pivots so that the body part 11 rests on the base 1, Fig. 2, not shown. In a modification, Fig. 7, the abrasive surface 4 pivotally mounted at 23 carries a pair of arms 24 which contact the undersides of cranked arms 10 of the pivoted frame, the arms 10 engaging blade springs 21 to maintain the driving pressure.
