Abstract
590,584. Electromagnetic switches. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and WATKINS, L. G. Feb. 28, 1945, No. 5051. [Class 38 (v)] An electromagnetic switch has two windings 9, 10 connected in parallel and acting in opposition, the winding 9 having in series with it a resistance 37 which increases in value when heated so that after a time interval, the winding 10 sufficiently overpowers the winding 9 to operate the switch. The switch shown is responsive to a protracted overload, the armature 12 then moving so that a projection 14 raises a contact spring 15. The co-operating contact 25 follows to start with but eventually the end 27 of a spring-biassed lever 28 slips under the bent-round end of the spring 15 (Fig. 4) and raises it quickly out of engagement with the contact 25 thus breaking the circuit both of the load and of the coils 9, 10. The switch is reset by pressing a plunger 32 which engages the lever 28.
