[Class 74 (ii)] In a circular machine for knitting the heel and toe of a stocking by reciprocatory knitting and in which a body yarn 6 and a pile yarn 8 are fed to the needle, the yarn guide 7 for the body yarn 6 in its operative position rests in a depression in the usual mouthpiece in the carrier ring 1. The guide 9 for the pile yarn has a flexible end portion arranged to be movable laterally towards either corner of the mouthpiece, dependent upon the direction of reciprocation. The guide 9 may be bent permanently so that in normal rotary knitting it assumes a position in one corner, and is moved by a lug on the sinker cam cap into the opposite corner when the needle cylinder rotates in the opposite direction. The yarn feeding means are described in connection with the machine described in Specification 590,410 in which the separation of the pile yarn 8 and the body yarn 6 is increased by feeding the body yarn 6 below the pile yarn 8, engaging the body yarn only by the fixed active needle 69, and drawing the needle outwardly before the next following needle 73 engages both yarns.
