Abstract
589,844. Stocks and dies. WORNELL, C. N. M. March 26, 1945, No. 7601. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] A combined die-stock and wrench for taps, r amers, &c. has two radial handles 14, 15, and a holder 10 with two sockets 11, 12 of different size. A threading-die may be fitted in the larger socket 11 and secured by two radial set screws 24 screwed into the holder 10 and adjusted by a further set screw 23. To accommodate dies of smaller diameters one or a nest of sleeves 38 may be fitted in the socket 11. These sleeves are provided with radial holes 31, which may be threaded to register with the set screws 23, 24, and each sleeve may have an orificed flange 28 of a thickness such that the die fitted in it is flush with the face 30 of the holder. Each sleeve may have a projection 35 or recess 39 to register with a corresponding formation in the socket or adjacent sleeve. When used as a tap &c. wrench the shank of a tap, reamer or like tool is clamped in the apex 19 of the smaller socket 12 by one radial handle 15 which is screwed into the holder 10 and can be locked by a nut 20. The Provisional Specification states that the sleeves may be split axially.
