Abstract
588,938. Loom shuttle swells and stopmotions. MACRO, S. Jan. 10, 1945, Nos. 810, 21766 and 25397. [Classes 142 (i) and 142 (iii)] The swell A, which may be loaded by an adjustable leaf or other spring, is carried by equal or unequal links B, B<1> which keep it parallel or substantially parallel with the plane in which it has been set. The pivots C are in advance of the pivots D, D' relative to the incoming shuttle so that the braking pressure is increased, as the shuttle arrives and relieved when it is picked. The angle of the links (and hence the induced braking effect), and the protrusion of the swell into the box, can be adjusted by a screw H and by moving the pivots D, D' along slots. A stop-motion acting if the shuttle fails to box may be operated by a lever K<1> pivoted at D' or elsewhere and resting on the swell at K<2> or against one of the links. Or the link B may be extended beyond its pivot D and the lever K<1> bolted to it, or the lever may be integral with the link. Or the lever may be pivoted to an extension of a link and also rest against the link or the swell so that the angular movement of the lever is greater than that' of the link. When the shuttle boxes, the lever K<1> displaces a finger J so that a tongue is lifted clear of a frog and the stop motion is not actuated. In a modification applied to a circular shuttle box, the protrusion of the swell into the box is limited by stops abutting the ends of the swell. In a modification applied to a two cell drop box the swells are loaded by torsion springs acting on the lever K' which carries a roller resting on the swell.
