850,026. Door operating-appliances. VEREINIGTE BAUBESCHLAGFABRIKEN GRETSCH & CO. G.m.b.H. Dec. 13, 1957 [Dec. 20, 1956], No. 38759/57. Class 65(1). A door closing device for a swinging door which can open in either direction comprises a housing 1, (see Fig. 1), a closer spindle 5 adapted to be secured to the door, at least one lever 6 moved by the spindle on the opening of the door, chains 9, 12 connected between the lever and two rocking levers 8, 10 so that when the door is opened in either direction the rocking levers are turned in opposition to the closer spring 14. The rocking levers are mounted on a common axis 40, adjustable abutment means 11 being provided between them. The longer arm of the rocking lever 8 is connected to a dashpot arrangement 18. A tension spring at one end of the chain tensions the unstressed chain. A cam 7 mounted on the closer spindle engages the edge of the rocking lever 8 as the spindle moves in either direction. In another embodiment, Fig. 7, the lever 6 is replaced by levers 61, 62 which are connected to a common point 31 on the rocking lever 24 by links 301, 29, 28, and by links 302, 27 respectively. The link 27 is slotted to permit lost motion between it and the point 31 when the other linkage is operated by the door closing spindle. The pivot pins between the linkages and the arms 6<1>, 62 extend downwards and engage rails 34 secured to the base of the housing. The rocking levers 24, 25 are connected together with limited angular movement by a set screw 26 mounted in the former and extending into an arcuate slot in the latter.
