[Class 83 (iv)] A metal-working press comprises the combination of a reciprocatory tool carrier or carriers, a pair or pairs of rollers on the carrier or carriers and a rotary cam or cams arranged between and in constant contact with the rollers and adapted to impart positive movement in opposite directions to the carrier or carriers, the cam or cams being shaped so that the sum of the radii passing through the lines of contact between the cam or cams and the rollers is a constant. In one form, Fig. 1, tworeciprocatory slides a are supported in alignment by horizontal guides b and carry at their outer ends tools, such as drawing or cutting tools d, for co-operating with complementary fixed tools e mounted at opposite ends of the bed. Between the two slides is a transverse driven shaft g on which is mounted a cam i so shaped that the sum of any two radii passing through the lines of contact between the cam and rollers j carried by the slides is a constant. The rollers are mounted on blocks k adjustably secured to the slides a by bolts m and directly connected with the tool-carrying end of the slides by adjustable thrust members t. The two slides are interconnected by a rectangular frame p which is rigidly secured to the block k of one slide and secured to the other through an abutment q loaded by a spring r, so that the two slides are operated together by the central cam. In a modification, two separate cams are used. In another form, a single central cam acts on two pairs of coupled slides acting at right angles. In a further modification, Fig. 5, two pairs of cams i' on a driven shaft g<4> are coupled by rods k<4> to two opposed slides a' adapted to carry complementary tools.
