Abstract
1341687 Machine tool details; forging presses G K N ENG Ltd 16 Dec 1971 [3 Oct 1970] 47103/70 Headings B3B and B3H [Also in Divisions B5 and F2] A machine tool comprises a reciprocable component 10, e.g. a ram of a press, a forging tool, or a tool-carrying component of a boring tool, and a linkage system for guiding the component, the system including two pairs of shafts 11, 12 and 13, 14 rotatably mounted in the component, the two pairs being spaced from one another in the direction of reciprocation, the shafts of each pair being inclined to one another and lying in a plane or planes normal to the direction of reciprocation, the shafts of one pair being parallel to the corresponding shafts of the other pair, a pivot pin 18, 19 ... eccentrically disposed at each end of each shaft 11 ., the two pins on each shaft being diametrically opposed, and links 24, 25 ... pivoted to both the frame of the tool and to a pivot 18, 19 ..., the links pivoted to each shaft extending oppositely to the shaft. As the component 10 reciprocates the shafts oscillate causing the component to move in a substantially straight line or in a curve intersecting a straight line in three points. Each shaft and its two links form, in effect, a three bar linkage.
