Abstract
713,340. Forging-presses. TAYLOR & CHALLEN, Ltd., and CHALLEN, H. D. July 21, 1952 [July 27, 1951], No. 17808/51. Class 83 (4) In a power press o the kind having a pair of dies which co-operate to form a split mould into which a heated billet is placed and wherein recesses or bore are formed in the bille by a main press tool which enters the mould in the main direction of flow of the metal, and one or more subsidiary tools 8 which enter the mould in an opposite and / or transverse direc tion, a vertical slide or slides 5 driven from the main crankshaft, e.g through a connecting rod 7, operates the subsidiary tool or tools through a linkage comprising a plurality of links and eccentrics, whereby the subsidiary tool or tools move into the mould at a speed in excess of the speed of the main tool during the final portion of its inward stroke. The slides 5 are each connected at 10 to a pair of links 11 mounted on crank pins 12 of a rock shaft 13 which has another crank pin 15 connected through a link 16 with a pair of rocker plates 18 pivoted on trunions 19 and connected through a link 22 with a horizontal slide 24 carrying the subsidiary tool 8. During the last “ inch of movement of the main tool the subsidiary tools 'move through 2 inches. Specifications 367,137 and 480,160 are referred to.
