Abstract

1473406 Thread rolling machines HARTFORD SPECIAL MACHINERY CO 16 Dec 1974 [14 Dec 1973] 54193/74 Heading B3M A starter mechanism for feeding blanks 15 from a work shoot 14 to a pair of thread rolling dies 16, 18 includes a starter blade 36 which is mounted on a slide 62 for reciprocation towards and away from the working gap between the dies, the blade being moved away from the gap by an oscillating drive lever 48 and towards gap by an adjustable spring 114 within a slide housing 108. The drive lever is biased by a spring 66 and is moved by a further lever 46 pivoted at 80 and oscillated by the action of a cam follower 54 on a cam 38. The cam is carried on the driving crank 40 for the reciprocable rolling die 18. The connection between the drive lever 48 and lever 46 is by way of a pivot pin 78 located between respective arms of the levers. By adjusting the position of the pin along arm 64 of the drive lever, the stroke of the lever (and hence of the starter blade) can be changed. The pivot point 80 for the lever 46 can be adjusted in position by an assembly 84. The rolling machine can process blanks with finished diameters of between 0À06 and 0À16 inch at speeds of up to 750 per minute.
