Abstract

586,854. Ladders. BARKEY, I. S. July 24, 1944, No. 14105. [Class 20 (ii)] A step ladder has automatically extensible braces which support the ladders on either side, each of these braces being provided with extensible feet. The braces 14, of which only one is shown, and the front and back members 1, 9 are hinged to the top member 10. Links 15, 16 connect the main members 1, 9 to a cross bar 18 and the braces are connected to this bar by jointed links 19, 20. The cross bar 18 is constructed of a pair of flat metal members with their ends spaced apart and turned outwardly at 17 to provide means of pivoting thereto the members 15, 16, 19. The braces 14 have hinged end portions 22 pivotally connected by a rigid bar 25 to the pivot between links 19, 20 so that these end portions close and open with the lateral movement of the side braces. The braces are capable of independent adjustment.
