750,320. Step ladders. HARRISON, H. May 6, 1953, No. 12617/53. Class 20(2). A stop ladder comprises a pair of supporting legs 5 pivoted to the ladder part 2 and held in operative position by a linkage comprising a primaty frame E pivoted to the ladder and a pair of secondary frames D. F. each pivoted to one leg 5 by pivots 13 and to the frame E by pivot pins 9 which are at such an angle that when unfolding the ladder the legs 5 move laterally and rearwardly to operative position. A chain 18 holds the frames in operative position. The axes of the pivots 13, 9, 14 of the linkage on both sides of the ladder intersect at points on opposite sides of the ladder on a line passing through the hinges 14. The frame E is pivoted to the ladder by brackets 17 which allow it to fold flat against the ladder. A shelf 23 for tools is pivoted on the legs 5 and has braces 24 engaging a step.
