Abstract
586,822. Sheaf-binding machines. DOGGETT, B. H. Dec. 5, 1944, No. 24324. [Class 6 (iii)] A reaping and sheafbinding machine has a laterally extending carrier with a conveyer system, the carrier being so constructed that sheaves are discharged at various points in its length. Referring to the Figure, the carrier comprises an upwardly inclined portion 11 connected by a draw-bar 12 to a binder, and a horizontal portion 13 open at the bottom rigidly connected with the portion 11. A pinion 26 on the stud 25 of the wheel 14 drives a pinion 28 mounted in a bracket 30 on the portion 13, through a chain 27. The bracket 30 carries the wheel 14 and also a sprocket wheel 31 in gear with the pinion 26. An endless chain 32 passes round sprocket wheels 31, 33, 34, 35, the wheel 34 providing the drive for an endless belt conveyer 36 which is kept in alignment by three pairs of rollers (see Fig. 3.). Similarly the sprocket wheel 33 drives a conveyer 43. After the first cut of the standing crop, the sheaves from the binder fall on to the flap 54 in the position indicated in dotted lines ; after the second cut a lever 55 moves the flap 54 to the position indicated in full lines, whereby the sheaves are directed up the conveyer 43 and are then deposited on the ground through the agency of a flap 21. After the third cut a lever 22 sets the flap 21 towards the binder and the sheaves are thereby directed on to the conveyer 36. The chute 57 at the end of the carrier remote from the binder is set in position by a lever 58 to deposit the sheaves between the chute and the end of the carrier. After the fourth cut the chute 57 is reset in the position shown in full lines in the diagram whence the sheaves pass over the chute and fall beyond it.
