Abstract

964,677. Potato-harvesters. W. A. CRAGO. July 10, 1963 [July 16, 1962], No. 27229/62. Heading A1F. A tractor-mounted potato-harvester comprises a frame 1 mounted on tractor hitchlinks by means of a coupling 2, the frame carrying a share 4, a spinner 5 feeding the excavated material to a first conveyer 14 which deposits it into a revolving drum 23, from which it is delivered to a bagging position 44 by further conveyers 36, 40, 43 The drum has internal baffles 32 which carry the crop around until it falls on to the endless conveyer 36, which is laterally inclined so that the potatoes tend to roll off on to an upwardly-sloping conveyer 40, while trash is discharged from the conveyer 36 into a shoot 39. The potatoes pass via the conveyer 43 to the bagging point 44. The conveyers, drum, and spinner are all driven from the tractor power-takeoff through a main input-shaft 3, chain drives 8, 9, 10, 15, 18 and a jointed shaft 25. A gearbox 13 enables the spinner to be rotated at various speeds. The bagging point 44 is flanked by operator's platforms 45, 46.
