716,470. Beet-topping machines. ANDERSON, A. K. K., and ROSENSTAND, T. Sept. 27, 1952, No. 24259/52. Class 6 (3) A beet-topping machine, that cuts only the beetfoliage, comprises a conventional reciprocating mower 1 mounted at the lower end of an endless elevator comprising chains 14 interconnected by tine-bars 16 and running in a shoot 3 the elevator being characterized by a drum 9a extending between the lower chain-sprockets 8 and of a diameter equal to that of the sprockets. The machine is supported on wheels 23 on a frame 22. The tine-bars are of substantially equal length to the drum-radius and are supported during upward travel by rails 19, which terminate above an aperture 21 in the shoot-floor through which the leaves fall into a discharge shoot, Fig. 4 (not shown), for delivery to a vehicle alongside.
