586,529. Floors. KAHR, G. Aug. 3, 1944, No. 14864. [Class 20 (iv)] [Also in Group XXIII] A parquet floor covering of the kind comprising laminated boards with jointing tongues and grooves 14, 13 consists of a lower layer 3 with its grain running longitudinally of the board and a parquet wearing layer 4 comprising pieces 6 with their grain running transversely and abutting at one or both ends on longitudinally extending edge ribbons or strips 11, 12, which prevent difficulty and wastage in cutting the boards to match the patterns on adjacent boards. As shown, the edge strips are carried by narrow intermediate boards 2, and may be separated by a strip 10 or be formed as a single strip 12 covering the intermediate board. Alternatively, Fig. 4, an edge strip 16 may be provided at one or both sides of the boards carrying the parquet layer 4, the boards 2 being dispensed with. The edge strips may be thicker than the adjacent parquet pieces and dressed down after laying the boards to equalize differences of levels. Longitudinal cuts 9 extending from the upper or lower surface, or both, of the core 3 may be provided to minimize warping, and more widely spaced transverse cuts may be also made. Alternatively, the core may be formed of narrow boards or of bars not glued to one another. A bottom layer 5 of veneer or strips with grain extending transversely of the board may be provided.
