Abstract

584,049. Crop - sprayers. RIPPER, W. E. Nov. 20, 1944, No. 23016. [Class 69 (iii)] An attachment for a machine for spraying weed killer on the weeds growing between crops comprises a hood or hoods 1 which can be lowered over the growing crops-to protect them from the effects of the weed-killer sprayed from nozzles 19 on the machine. In the form shown, the hood 1 is hingedly connected by links 2, 3 to rods 4, 5 about which the links pivot. The rods are suspended by brackets from tool-bars 9, 10 carried on the spraying machine (not shown). To adjust for crop-row spacing, the links themselves are movable laterally along the rods and are retained in position by angle brackets 7, 8 secured to the tool-bars. The hoods are flared at each end to prevent dripping of the chemical on to the crops. The hoods may be lifted by means of a lever-and-link arrangement 15, 16, 11, the lifting being performed by a short lever 12 carrying a pin 13 which engages a slot 14 in one of the links 2. Skids 20 are provided to enable the hoods to slide freely over the ground.
