Abstract

583,814. Cooling radiators for aircraft &c. BELAIEFF, J. F., DELANEY, C. T., and GALLAY, Ltd. Jan. 17, 1944. No. 878. [Class 64 (iii)] In a matrix for a secondary surface heat exchanger, e.g., a combined oil and water cooler for aircraft, having substantially parallel spaced tubes 1, 2, 3 comprising two groups, each for cooling a separate fluid, the viscosity of one fluid being different from that of the other and the two groups being combined to form a single matrix the dimension of which longitudinally of the tube varies far different tube locations, the tubes 3 for the more viscous fluid are all of equal length and the remainder of the said longitudinal dimension of the matrix is substantially made up by tubes 2 for the less viscous fluid, the latter tubes thus varying in length according to their location. Intermediate tubes 1 for the less viscous fluid extend over substantially the whole longitudinal dimension of the matrix. The tubes 1, 2, 3 are of flattened shape, and are subdivided internally by corrugated metal sheets in U-shaped passages which open into a pair of headers at one end or the other of the matrix. The tubes are separated by corrugated metal sheets. The tubes, instead of being arcuate as shown, may be straight so that the matrix is trapezoidal in outline. According to the Provisional Specification, two arcuate radiators may surround a propeller shaft, or the radiator may be rectangular.
