Abstract
586,860. Heat-exchangers. POOLE, R. Sept. 15, 1944, No. 17722. [Class 64 (iii)] [Also in Group XXII] The tubes A of a heat-exchanger are fitted with a series of radial fins or a continuous helical fin made of expanded strip metal B. The metal strip B is provided with a series of rows of slits B' arranged in staggered relationship, the outer row extending at B<2> through one edge of the strip and the opposite edge B<3> of the strip being bent at right angles and provided with slits B<4> to form a flexible flange. The edge or flange B<3> of the strip is applied to the tube A and soldered thereto, the strip proper expanding as the result of bending of said edge around and into contact with the tube; alternatively the strip is pre-expanded by bending it around a former having the same curvature as the tube.
