Abstract

580,679. Cooling radiators for aircraft. WORCESTER WINDSHIELDS & CASEMENTS, Ltd., SOUTHALL, H., and DEAKIN, T. M. May 11, 1944, Nos. 11473/45 (divided out of 580,652) and 11476/45. [Class 64 (iii)] In an oil cooler &c. e.g., for an aircraft engine formed of flat tubes 1, Figs. 1, 2, spaced apart by open-ended air tubes 2, the tubes 12 being bonded together to form a solid block, as described in Specification 580,652, the tubes 1 are connected between headers 9, 12, the latter of which communicates through ducts 22 with a drainage chamber 21 having a plug 24 upon removal of which the whole of the tubes can be drained simultaneously. The cooler may be formed with an upper chamber 13 for byepassed oil connected by down-flow tubes 14 to chambers 17, as described in Specification 580,678. The chambers 17 communicate through passages 23 with the drainage chamber, and through up-flow tubes 19 with chambers discharging into the outlet 8 in the cover. The bye-passed oil warms the oil in the tubes 1.
