Abstract
580,678. Cooling radiators for aircraft. WORCESTER WINDSHIELDS & CASEMENTS, Ltd., SOUTHALL, H., and DEAKIN, T. M. May 11, 1944, Nos. 11472/45 (divided out of 580,652) and 11475/45. [Class 64 (iii)] An oil &c. cooler particularly for aircraft engines comprises a matrix consisting of groups of flat oil tubes 1, Figs. 1, 4, 6, spaced apart by stacks of flat air tubes 2, the whole being bonded together to form a solid block, as described in Specification 580,652, and rows of bypass tubes 22, 27. The tubes 1 are secured in tube-plates 3, 4 having recesses 8, 12 which divide the tubes into serially-connected groups through which the oil normally flows in a serpentine path from an inlet 10 to an outlet 11 in the cover 9. The bye-pass tubes 22, 27 are connected between longitudinal chambers 15, 18, 25, and oil bye-passed from the main stream entering the inlet 10 of the cooler, e.g., by a thermostatic valve passes into the chamber 15 and thence down the tubes 22 and up the tubes 27 into the chambers 18 which discharge into the outlet 11.
