Abstract
1,108,505. Tubular heat exchangers. EATON YALE & TOWNE Inc. 20 July, 1966 [19 Aug., 1965], No. 32654/66. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger comprises an extrusion in the form of a tube divided internally by partitions 18- 25 into passageways 31-38. Headers (12, 13, Figs. 1, 3, 4) at each end of the tube direct two heat exchange fluids respectively to and from alternate passageways. The partitions 18-25 and the insides of the tube walls 26-29 are formed with ribs, e.g. 39, 40. The headers are detachably secured by a bolt (16 or 17) to the ends of the hub 30 of the tube, a gasket (e.g. 64, Fig. 5) being interposed between each header and the contour of the tube and partition walls. Each header includes a surge tank (46, 54) to relieve excess pressure in the heat exchanger and includes also a cap with a restricted opening (60) through which excess fluid is discharged. The headers also are provided with hose connections for the respective fluids. In use, hot water from a vehicle engine block is cooled in the heat exchanger by cold water.
