[Class 122 (v)] A stuffing-box consists of a rubber or like sleeve 4 compressed by a nut 5 between two relatively oscillating members 1 and 2, the bearing 2 having a recess 3 into which the sleeve is compressed, and a shoulder 8 being formed between the bearing end and a washer 7. Motion is permitted by the flexibility of the sleeve material, the two surfaces of contact of which bind on the members 1, 2.
