Abstract

583,328. Cut-outs. DORMAN &. SMITH, Ltd., and ATHERTON, T. Oct. 18, 1944, No. 20138. [Class 38 (i)] A fusible element comprises a short length of circular silver wire, flattened over a portion (e.g., <1>/32 in. to “ in.) of its length, the flattened portion being surrounded by a globule of low melting-point metal. The flattened portion presents a greater surface area to the low melting-point metal and thus rupture occurs after a shorter time interval than if the shape were unaltered, thereby reducing the amount of heat transmitted to the terminal ends. The element may be enclosed in a cartridge.
