Abstract
583,299. Convertible seats &c. DAUNTON, N. A., and LEE, A. E. J. Oct. 17, 1944, No. 20045. [Class 52 (ii)] The collapsable furniture comprises a rectangular tubular metal bed frame with two long sides 1, 2 rigidly connected to two short sides 3, the long sides being hinged about the pivot 6 and being provided with legs 9, 11, and a canvas 16 extending from the short sides 3, the frame being adapted to fold about the hinge with the centre of the bed uppermost to form a chair, the back and seat of which are formed by a portion of the canvas 16, and retaining means being provided for locking the frame in the chair position. The retaining: means comprises a U-shaped support 26 adapted to engage hooks 27. The legs 9 are joined by a stay 10 and are adapted to pivot through the frame to form the seat frame. Abutments 14, 25 limit the movement in the desired direction. Springs 18 are provided at one end of the canvas the other end of which is removably attached to the frame by a rod 21 and hooks 22. Near this end lugs 29 with eyes 28 are also provided to engage abutments 7 as attachment means for the canvas in the chair position. A reinforcing strap 23 is suspended as shown. According to the Provisional Specification a pair of legs serves as the retaining means for locking the frame in the seat position.
