Abstract

800,907. Seats. WARMEX. Ltd., and GOLDSTEIN, A. Jan. 25, 1957, No. 2821/57. Class 52(2) A tubular framework deck-chair comprises a first U-frame forming the rear legs, the upper ends of the sides 12 of which are pivoted to the upper ends of the sides 19 of a second U-frame forming the front legs and which lies within the first U-frame when folded, together with telescopic arms 14, 15 in pivotal relation at one end with the upper ends of the first and second U-frames and at the other end pivoted to an intermediate position of the side members 36 of an inverted U-frame, for the back, of such width that it can come within the first U-frame, the lower ends of the sides of the inverted U-frame being pivoted at 40 to the ends of side members 37 of a seat frame, each side member 37 being pivoted at 38 to the second U-frame and being connected by a fixed cross-bar 39, the pivots 40 being connected to the sides of the first U-frame by bent links 41 in combination with releasable means for fixing the link 41 relative to the first U-frame in the erected position of the chair, and .a canvas or other textile support held by detachable means to the back frame and side members 37 of the seat frame and passing freely over the cross - bar 39. The releasable means are preferably a spring loaded pin mounted in a housing 43 integral with one of the links 41 and engaging a socket in a side member of the rear leg frame. A forward extension 48 of the seat frame is provided by having spigots engaging the tubular side members 37 of the seat frame and secured by latches 52. The telescopic arm rest 14 consists of outer and inner tubes 21, 22 connected by a spring 25 having at one end a loop 26 embracing a peg 27 in the outer tube 21 and formed so that there is lost motion between the spring and outer tube 21 while the spring is fixed relative to the inner tube 22. The arm 15 is provided with an internal link limiting the extension of the arm. The canvas support is held in position by removable cross-bars 62 having a fixed spigot at one end and a spring loaded spigot at the other end, and engaging a series of holes 66 in the back frame and 67 in the forward extension of the seat frame. The canvas is padded at 61 to form a head support and at 69 over the fixed cross-bar 39. When the forward extension is not used the canvas is doubled about the cross-bar 39 and the free end secured to the back rest. The forward extension has a leg frame which may be latched in folded position against the side members 48 of the forward extension.
