Abstract

583,282. Coating &c. sponge cakes. DUMBLETON, C., and BAKER PERKINS, Ltd. Oct. 13, 1944, No. 19802. [Class 28 (i)] A web 8 of sponge cake is received from an oven conveyer 1 on to the upward incline of an endless conveyer 2 which has an overhead run 2a to provide head room underneath for operatives to work on the reverse side of the sponge web when delivered from the end 6 on to the further conveyer 9, arranged at convenient bench height. A scraper frees the baked sponge from the conveyor 1. An inclined board or slideway 10 is provided to direct the sponge web 8 on to the conveyor 9 bottom upermost. The operator may spread filling material on the web for making swiss roll or sandwich or may cut it up or an automatic spreader and guillotine may be provided for this purpose. The conveyers 2 and 9 may be independently driven but synchronised with the other conveyer or they may be driven by direct gearing from the other conveyer. The conveyer 2 allows time for the sponge to cool. Specifications 276,061, [Class 28 (i)], and 363,713 are referred to.
