Abstract
583,204. Pressure gauges. GRANT, C. R. A. Aug. 11, 1944, No. 15290. [Class 106 (ii)] A pressure gauge comprises two elements, one for measuring pressures above atmospheric and the other for measuring vacua, both elements being connected to a post containing a valve which, when a pressure above atmospheric is applied, closes the inlet to the element measuring vacua, the valve opening this inlet when a pressure below atmospheric obtains in the post. As applied to a Bourdon-tube gauge, the vacua-measuring tube 4 and the other tube 5 are fixed to a hollow post 1 connected to the pressure inlet. A valve 9 slides in the post to close the entrance 8 to the vacuameasuring tube 4 when a pressure above atmosperic is applied, this pressure, however, being communicated to the other measuring tube 5 through channels 16 in the end of the valve. Each tube 4, 5 is connected to its respective pointer 18, 17 by known mechanism 29, 30. A stop 34 prevents movement of the above atmospheric pressure pointer 17 when a vacuum is applied. Alternatively, a lost-motion connection may be provided in the mechanism 29. A second stop 34 may also be arranged to prevent retrograde movement of the vacuumindicating pointer 18.
