Abstract

583,010. Skates. GUTTRIDGE, S. Sept. 20, 1944, No. 17931. [Class 132 (i)] A roller skate or blade skate has its rollers or blade mounted upon a chassis having upwardly projecting pins which may be detachably secured in apertured lugs projecting downwardly from a skate plate, shock absorbing means being provided to insulate the skate plate from the chassis. As shown in Fig. 1, the upwardly projecting pins 10 of the chassis pass through the lugs 4 secured to the sheet metal skate plate 1 and are secured by recessed nuts 11. The skate plate and lugs may alternatively be formed in one aluminium or alloy casting. Rubber buffers and/or springs 12 are provided between the nuts and the lugs and between the lugs and the chassis, or, alternatively, the pins 10 may each be formed with a recess into which a spring-loaded locking- pin is adapted to snap. The roller chassis (Figs. 1, 5 and 7) comprises a metal rod with square end members 8 and inclined steering pins 6, on which swivel axle housings containing the roller axles 19. Each axle housing is slotted transversely to receive a steering damper plate 23 which is slotted to engage in a recess 25 in the steering pin 6. The damper plate may be adjusted by means of screws 26 which control springs 27.
