Abstract
488,894. Laminated springs. TURRINELLI, G. July 12, 1937, No. 19325. [Class 108 (iii)] In order to regulate automatically the flexibility of a leaf-spring M, a member G is secured to the part to which one end of the spring is attached and has a face, adapted to engage the spring, so formed that its point of contact with the spring moves continuously away from the end of the spring to reduce the effective length and flexibility with increase in deflection of the spring. As shown, one end of the spring M is secured to a pin E slidable in a slotted shackle H pivoted at D, for example to a vehicle frame AB, the spring when loaded being adapted to bear against an increasing length of the curved member G fixed to the frame AB, thus decreasing the flexibility of the spring. In another construction one end of the spring is slidable in a slot in a pair of cranked shackles and the other end is hinged to a fixed pivot secured on similar but non-slotted shackles. In a further construction in which the spring is inverted relatively to that shown, each end of the spring is slidable in slotted cranked shackles pivoted to a vehicle wheel-supporting member on which the curved member G is mounted.
