Abstract

A cast iron article required to withstand the growth-promoting conditions of prolonged heating in an oxidizing atmosphere at elevated temperatures, e.g., about 600 DEG C., interrupted from time to time by cooling, is made of a gray cast iron of normal, coarse graphitic structure, containing 2.75 per cent. to 3.5 per cent. carbon and 3.5 per cent. to 4.5 per cent. silicon the balance being iron and incidental impurities. A preferred silicon content is approximately 3.75 per cent. Specification 323,076, [Class 82 (i)], is referred to.
