Abstract
An annealable white iron casting has the following composition, C 2.25-3.25 per cent., Si 0.6-1.6 per cent., Mn 0.3-07 per cent., Bi 0 002-0.025 per cent., B 0.0005-0.01 per cent. and the remainder Fe. The iron is characterized by non-formation of primary graphite during solidification, the boron accelerating the decomposition of iron carbide during annealing. Specification 569,468 is referred to.
