Abstract

582,222. Valve generating circuits. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). May 25, 1944, No. 10197. [Class 40 (v)] An oscillator comprises three coaxial cylinders 10, 11, 12 arranged one within the other, together with a valve 40, which may be of the type described in Specification 552,672. This consists of three disc members separated by sealed glass cylinders, the middle disc having a gauze covered aperture at its centre and forming the grid, while the other two discs carry the anode and cathode, these extending inwards to be in close proximity to the grid. The grid is connected to the intermediate cylinder 11 by a conducting ring 73, while the anode and cathode are connected to the two remaining cylinders as shown. The anode has a screwed connection with a solid conductor 65, through which H.T. is supplied and which also serves to conduct away heat, and is capacitively coupled to the inner cylinder 12 by insulating dielectric material 67. The cathode connection 46 is similarly capacitively coupled to the outer cylinder 10 by a flat metal ring 79 and an insulating plate 82. A screwed rod 90, projecting from the ring 79 into the space adjacent to the anode provides variable coupling between the anode and cathode. Both the anode and cathode circuits are tuned by sliding short-circuiting rings 21, 28, and power may be taken from the oscillator by means of a loop 32 connected to the external circuit by a concentric cable 33. If desired, the valve may be inverted, the anode being connected to the outer cylinder and the cathode to the innermost cylinder. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 581,781.
